Earlier this month, Jack McGuinness from construction company LT McGuinness, gave the TwentyTwo Tribe the opportunity to tour the current development of Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Upon first entering this magnificent building, our jaws dropped in acknowledgment of the seven years’ dedication that have so far been put into this premium addition to the city.
During our tour of this bold new venue, Jack described the facilities that will make up the 18,000m2 building, alongside its varying uses for the people of Wellington and its visitors, including meeting rooms and breakout, conference, exhibition and banquet spaces.
The detail is impressive; this five Green Star centre has quality craftsmanship written all over it from the exterior three-layered glass with transparent mesh to the symmetrical curve of the exterior cladding.
One of the most positive impacts of this building, I believe, is the support it has given local businesses in the last seven years in providing 864 construction jobs and 372 operation jobs. Post-build, the centre will continue to provide around 372 jobs to Wellington.
Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre has combined with Te Papa under the new trading name ‘Tākina Events’ – ‘Tākina’ meaning “to invoke, summon, to connect and to bring forth”. I believe this is another step closer to uniting the Wellington community.
After touring the centre, TwentyTwo looks forward to the opening of the Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre early next year.
Congratulations to Jack and his team and LT McGuinness and Willis Bond for the successful deliveryof this bold, new community facility to the Wellington landscape.
